When it comes to the world’s finest cameras, the name Leica has long towered over the rest.

With origins dating back to 1849, Leicas have been used by every legendary photographer from Henri Cartier-Bresson to Annie Leibovitz. One of its most successful modern models is the Leica M (Typ 240) digital rangefinder, which aside from a few special limited editions has always been offered in basic black. Now the famed firm has introduced a new à la carte program via an online configurator for the Leica M that allows purchasers to customize their cameras – call it made-to-measure for lensman who really appreciate detail.

New colors for the Leica M body include black chrome, silver chrome and black enamel, set off by some super stylish leather wrapping options. Here’s where the gentleman who likes a bit of élan can really strut his stuff, with a choice of gray, red, dark blue, khaki, brandy, boysenberry and coffee bean, as well as the ability to select embossed lizard and ostrich patterns. Plus of course leather straps to match. There are also some technical items being offered a la carte, including the addition of a frame selection lever that simulates six different focal lengths in the viewfinder. And to top it off Leica will engrave your personal logo or monogram on the top or back of the camera’s top deck. Can anyone say smoking skull…..?
