Ask DQ where to get a truly well-made cocktail in the morass of Miami Beach

and odds are we’ll direct you to the Regent Cocktail Club in the Gale Hotel, as gentlemanly a spot as you could hope to find. Every classic cocktail tells a story, as the boys there like to say, and many’s the night we’ve put on our best listening boots. Substance may be in short supply in South Beach but the Regent’s mixologists have the antidote.

So you’ll be interested to hear that the Regent has just opened an outpost in our neck of the woods, more or less, in Montauk. The un-Hampton is home to Gurney’s, a resort and spa perched on the ocean that’s been upping its style quotient. Like the Miami original, Regent will feature a rotating menu of classic concoctions, led by acclaimed bartender Julio Cabrera. Indoors you’ll find a fireplace for chilly night and leather sofas that would do a Pall Mall club proud; outside a tented deck for al fresco libations.Weekends a DJ spins discs and they’re also kicking off a new monthly series dubbed “Havana Nights” featuring authentic Cuban dancing, live Latin music, cigar rolling and Cuban-themed Bacardi cocktail specials by Señor Cabrera, including Regent faves like the Presidente, Hotel Nacional and ChichaRon Old Fashioned. That should hold you ‘till you get to the real thing.
