Time to Get Tough

Since 1994 Luminox, the all-American brand of Swiss-made tactical watches, has supplied timepieces to the Navy SEALs

after they requested a tough-as-nails dive watch for night missions. To celebrate the brand’s 25th anniversary they’ve now updated the SEAL’s wrist gear, along with a special new 25th anniversary dial for civilians that is only being made available in 2015. The 25th anniversary edition is also sold as a set along with a deadly-looking SOG tactical knife, first made for covert use during the Vietnam War. That’s in addition to their new SEAL related series- ANU (Authorized for Navy Use). You’re probably familiar with the brand’s capable-looking tool watches. What you may not know is that Luminox also offers a number of pieces designed for Air Force pilots with high-end Swiss Valjoux movements that are priced in the $3,000 range.

Our favorites are the top-of-the-line numbers named for famed Air Force craft like the SR-71 “Blackbird”, a long-range, Mach 3+ strategic spy plane, and the P-38 Lightning fighter-bomber from WWII. In addition to the SEALs, Luminox has strong on-going relationships with brand ambassadors and partners including Blackbird builder Lockheed Martin; XCOR Space Expeditions; Indy 500 Champion race driver Tony Kanaan; and counterterrorism operative and undersea explorer, Scott Cassell. The watch named after Cassell is also available as a dive set with two interchangeable straps (rubber and NATO), a strap extender, a changing tool and a compass, with a natty pop of yellow. Time to get tough.
